What is a STAR station?
Some vehicles are required by the DMV to receive a smog certificate from a STAR smog station. A STAR smog station must meet specific performance standards required by the Bureau of Automotive repair in order to become and stay a STAR smog station. A STAR station can certify both regular and STAR directed vehicles.
How would I know if my car needs a smog check from a STAR station?
Your DMV registration or DMV renewal papers will indicate whether your vehicle needs to be inspected by STAR station.
Where can I take my car to get repaired if my smog check fails?
The smog technician who inspected your vehicle is required to provide you with a list of test and repair stations nearby. You can also call 800-952-5210 for assistance. Don’t forget to ask about the CAP program. The consumer assistance program may pay for the required repairs if you’re eligible.

You may receive up to $500 dollars in repair assistance if you meet income eligibility requirements.
